CPAWSB’s Commitment to Reconciliation: Honouring the 2024 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

As we approach the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (NDTR) on September 30, CPAWSB affirms its continuous commitment to honouring Indigenous history, culture, and traditions. This day serves as a critical moment for reflecting on the legacy of the Canadian residential school system and renewing our dedication to reconciliation.

In observance of this important occasion, our offices will be closed on Monday, September 30. NDTR is an opportunity for all Canadians to reflect on the impact of residential schools on Indigenous communities and to further understand the importance of truth and reconciliation.

At CPAWSB, we are dedicated to fostering professional development for our staff by integrating Indigenous perspectives and knowledge into our organizational culture. We believe in the ongoing need to educate ourselves and to actively engage with Indigenous community members, knowledge keepers, and leaders.

Continuing Our Journey Towards Reconciliation

In alignment with our dedication to reconciliation, CPAWSB staff will participate in a special learning event co-hosted by AFOA Alberta on Thursday, October 3. To accommodate this important event, our offices will also be closed on that day. This event will focus on Jordan’s Principle, a critical topic in the pursuit of equitable healthcare and social services for First Nations children. We are working toward a deeper understanding of issues such as this and contribute meaningfully to the broader reconciliation process.

Additionally, we will offer resources for our team to explore and reflect upon their personal roles in reconciliation. Staff will be encouraged to participate in local efforts and engage in activities that promote understanding and support for Indigenous communities.

We believe that ongoing learning and respectful engagement are essential to building relationships with Indigenous communities and creating a more inclusive and equitable society.

As we observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we encourage everyone to take this time to reflect, listen, and learn. Together, we can work towards a future built on respect, understanding, and justice for Indigenous peoples.

Sincerely,
Yuen Ip, CPAWSB CEO
