The CPA Western School of Business (CPAWSB) is on the lookout for two passionate volunteers to join our Audit Committee—a vital role that contributes to the integrity and transparency of our financial processes.
By becoming a part of CPAWSB, you’ll immerse yourself in an innovative, competency-based learning environment that supports over 15,000 learners across Western and Northern Canada. This is your chance to help shape the future of education while enhancing your skills and knowledge.

Why Join Our Audit Committee
As a committee member, you’ll work alongside a diverse group of professionals, including one Board member, and will serve a three-year term, with the possibility of extending your commitment for another term. Your role will involve not just oversight but also using your strong interpersonal skills and sound judgment to challenge management, ask insightful questions, and contribute to our mission.
Our committee meets virtually for about 90 minutes four times a year. Expect a total time commitment of three to four hours each quarter, which includes reading agenda materials. This flexibility allows you to make a significant contribution to our organization without overwhelming your schedule
What You'll Be Working On
The Audit Committee plays a crucial role in financial stewardship and risk management. You’ll help ensure compliance with accounting standards and the integrity of our financial reporting processes.
Key responsibilities include reviewing and making recommendations regarding:
- The external audit and annual report
- Financial reporting, accounting policies, and disclosures
- Fraud risk management
- IT systems, including cybersecurity and implementations
- Effectiveness of our enterprise risk management program
- Corporate compliance
- Strengthening internal controls
What We're Looking For
We invite applications from individuals who are:
- A CPA in good standing
While not mandatory, the following experiences and qualifications would be beneficial:
- Prior audit committee experience
- Previous experience as a committee chair or Board member
- Familiarity with Part III of the CPA Canada Handbook and Canadian Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations
- Experience in the education sector
