The CPA Canada Advanced Certificate in Accounting and Finance (ACAF) is an online education program for those pursuing careers in accounting, but not as CPAs. The program has been designed to meet the needs of employers in all sectors of Canada’s economy: Students will learn to apply the technical accounting and software skills that employers value.
The self-study, e-learning approach of this program is available to students in Canada and abroad. Internationally-trained accountants seeking to enter the Canadian marketplace will find the ACAF a valuable credential.
The only academic prerequisite to enroll in the ACAF is one of the following:
You can enroll in ACAF courses if you have completed at least one year (30 credits) of post-secondary study in any discipline from a diploma or degree program at a recognized post-secondary institution or have three years of relevant work experience, which includes exposure to accounting and/or finance functions.
ACAF consists of five entry courses, six technical courses, and five applied courses (including two electives).
Entry courses can be completed through CPA preparatory courses or equivalent courses at post-secondary institutions. Please see the CPA preparatory course schedule and information here.
Technical courses can be completed through CPA preparatory courses or equivalent post-secondary institution (PSI) courses. Please see the CPA preparatory course schedule and information here.
With the exception of Accounting Software Applications, applied courses must be taken through CPAWSB as part of the ACAF and cannot be obtained from CPA preparatory courses or equivalent courses at post-secondary institutions. Accounting Software Applications can be completed at a post-secondary institution or through our partnership with SAGE and is the only applied course for which a transfer credit or exemption will be granted.
And the choice of two electives:
* All entry and technical courses or equivalents must be completed before starting Ethics and Workplace Skills. Ethics and Workplace Skills must be completed before starting any other applied courses.
** Introductory Financial Accounting must be completed before starting Accounting Software Application.
*** Ethics and Workplace Skills AND Accounting Software Application must be completed before starting Business Applications or Not-for-Profit Accounting.
